The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake and adulterated products valued at N2.664 billion in Enugu State.
The products, including rice and assorted drinks, were confiscated from dealers across the five South-Eastern states.
NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Southeast Zonal Director, Mr. Iluyomade Martins, said the destroyed products would have compromised the health of over three million people.
Adeyeye emphasized that NAFDAC will continue to protect public health by ensuring only quality regulated products are available.
She urged the public to report unscrupulous manufacturers and businessmen engaging in illicit practices to NAFDAC offices for investigation.
The agency’s vision is to be a world-class regulator ensuring availability of quality and safe food, drugs, and other regulated products.
The South-East Directorate covers Ebonyi, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, and Abia states, strategic areas for achieving NAFDAC’s mandate.
Recent raids and routine activities have led to the confiscation of harmful regulated products, demonstrating NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health.
The destruction exercise sends a strong message to merchants of fake products that it is no longer business as usual in the South-East.
