The National Basketball Association (NBA) has unveiled the new logo for the Emirates NBA Cup and announced that the second annual in-season competition will take place from Tuesday, November 12 to December 17, 2024.
In a press statement released on Thursday, July 11, the NBA detailed the selection process for the teams. The league explained that the 30 NBA teams will be randomly drawn into groups of five within their respective conferences, based on win-loss records from the 2023-24 regular season.
The new Emirates NBA Cup logo is a celebration of the league’s global marketing partnership with Emirates, which was announced in February. The six groups will be revealed by ESPN on Friday, July 12 at 7 p.m.
The single-elimination knockout rounds will commence with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, December 10 and Wednesday, December 11, held in NBA team markets. The semifinals and final will once again take place at T-Mobile Arena, continuing the tradition established in the inaugural tournament.
Similar to last season’s tournament, the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup will feature two stages: group play involving all 30 NBA teams and the Knockout Rounds for the eight teams that advance from the group stage.
For the 22 teams that do not qualify for the quarterfinals, each will be assigned two regular-season games scheduled for Thursday, December 12 or Friday, December 13, and Sunday, December 15 or Monday, December 16.
Additionally, the teams that lose in the quarterfinals within each conference will face off in regular-season games on December 12, 13, 15, or 16.
