FCT Residents Raise Alarm Over Rising Dumpsites Across Abuja

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have expressed concern over the growing number of refuse dumps on streets and major roads, calling the trend a threat to public health and an eyesore in the nation’s capital.

Mr. John Shawa highlighted the Bwari-Dutse-Kubwa Expressway and Gwarinpa as major areas of concern.

Mrs. Rhoda Essien of Dutse urged stronger sanitation campaigns, noting that indiscriminate dumping could spread disease and harm the environment.

“I see people in vehicles dump waste along roads, especially along Usuma Dam Road and Bwari Road. Even after evacuation, the waste returns,” she said, adding that a ditch on the Kubwa Expressway flyover had become a major refuse site.

Residents called on the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), and Bwari Area Council to collaborate on reorientation campaigns and stricter enforcement.

In Kuje Area Council, Mrs. Juliet Izien stressed the need for community action and penalties for offenders.

“There should be clear ‘No Dumping’ signs, and anyone caught should be arrested. Communities must be vigilant,” she said, suggesting regular monitoring by sanitary officers.

Mrs. Faith Nwosu, a teacher, noted that while some residents try to clean affected streets, the refuse often reappears.

She urged authorities to enforce sanitation laws and intensify hygiene sensitisation across FCT communities to reduce communicable diseases such as cholera.

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has described the prospect of the All Progressives Congress (APC) retaining power under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 as “scary to contemplate.”

Speaking on Thursday, Abdullahi criticised the APC-led government’s performance, citing persistent economic hardship and security challenges that, he said, have left many Nigerians dissatisfied.

He warned that extending the current administration beyond 2027 could worsen national difficulties and further strain governance and the daily lives of citizens.

Abdullahi’s remarks come amid growing political positioning by opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC urging voters to critically assess the ruling party’s record.

The APC has yet to respond to the comments, though it has previously defended its policies, insisting it is working to stabilise the economy and tackle insecurity.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), and its technical partner, PUMA, have unveiled a special gold-accented edition of the official match ball, ITRI, for Sunday’s TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 final in Morocco.

Hosts Morocco will face Senegal at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00pm local time.

CAF said in a statement on Friday that the commemorative ball was designed to honour the two finalists. The ITRI ball, used throughout the tournament, draws inspiration from traditional Moroccan zellij designs, featuring star shapes, floral patterns and circular symmetry.

Built on PUMA’s Orbita 6 technology, CAF noted that the ball blends cultural heritage with innovation while meeting elite performance standards.

CAF and PUMA had earlier unveiled the ITRI ball as the official match ball for AFCON 2025.

ADC: Nigerians Agree APC Government Has Failed

By Olokuta Rofiat

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has claimed that Nigerians are largely agreed that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government has failed to meet expectations and tackle the country’s major challenges.

In a statement on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, cited persistent economic hardship, worsening insecurity and rising living costs under President Bola Tinubu’s administration as evidence of what it described as poor governance.

The ADC said growing public dissatisfaction reflects frustration with the APC’s inability to deliver on its promises since coming to power.

The party urged the federal government to address the concerns of ordinary Nigerians and called on citizens to hold leaders accountable ahead of the 2027 general elections.
