The Federal Government has completed a review of curricula for basic, senior secondary, and technical education to equip Nigerian students with practical skills for global competitiveness.
Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, announced the revised curricula in Abuja on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa.
She said the exercise, carried out with key agencies including NERDC, UBEC, and NBTE, was designed to reduce content overload, improve outcomes, and promote deeper learning.
Under the new structure, pupils in Primary 1-3 will study 9-10 subjects; Primary 4-6, 10-12 subjects; junior secondary, 12-14; senior secondary, 8-9; while technical students will take 9-11 subjects.
Ahmad stressed that the reforms aim to “ease the burden on learners and create more learning time,” while ensuring skills acquisition remains central.
The Ministry said rollout would be gradual and closely monitored. Implementation of the revised basic curriculum, earlier postponed to September 2025, is expected to begin then.
