The Federal Government is stepping up efforts to expand inclusive and equitable education in Nigeria, particularly in riverine and historically significant communities, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, has said.
Garba disclosed this on Thursday in a statement via her official X account after an inspection tour of several communities in Lagos State, including Ibeshe, Moba, Ojo, Olorunda, and Badagry Local Government Areas.
As part of the tour, she inspected ongoing education projects such as the Smart School initiative in Olorunda Local Council Development Area, where she reiterated the government’s commitment to completing the facility to promote innovation and quality learning.
She also visited Nigeria’s first primary school, St. Thomas Primary School, Badagry (established in 1843), stressing the importance of preserving its historical legacy for future generations.
Garba was accompanied by UBEC’s Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), along with the Chairmen of Badagry, Olorunda, and Badagry West LCDAs, among other senior officials.
She described their presence as proof of the strong collaboration between UBEC, local governments, and traditional leaders in improving access to basic education.
“Together, we are building a stronger foundation for Nigeria’s future,” she affirmed.
