President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday ordered a major restructuring of Nigeria’s security architecture and directed that existing grazing reserves be converted into ranches and livestock settlements.

At the Federal Executive Council (FEC), meeting in Abuja, Tinubu instructed the Inspector-General of Police, heads of civil defence and forest-guard services to overhaul their deployments, re-arm forest guards and resume policing of high-risk areas.

He also tasked the National Economic Council (NEC), with identifying grazing reserves nationwide for rehabilitation into commercially viable ranches, part of a wider strategy to curb farmer-herder clashes and rural insecurity.

Tinubu reaffirmed the withdrawal of police officers from VIP duties, saying they must return to frontline operations to strengthen patrols, investigations and community protection.

Presidency sources say the combined reforms, security redeployment and conversion of grazing lands signal a renewed push to tackle kidnappings, communal violence and the persistent instability in many rural communities.
