Djokovic Alleges He Was ‘Poisoned’ During 2022 Australian Open Detention

Novak Djokovic has sensationally claimed that he was “poisoned” by food consumed during his detention in Melbourne ahead of the 2022 Australian Open.
In a recent interview, the Serbian star revealed that medical tests later showed high levels of heavy metals, including lead and mercury, in his system.
“I was fed with some food that poisoned me,” he alleged, adding that he only discovered the issue upon returning to Serbia.
Djokovic was detained in a Melbourne hotel after his visa was revoked due to his unvaccinated status.
He described the ordeal as politically motivated rather than a matter of public health.
“It was so political. It had nothing really to do with the vaccine or COVID-19,” he said, claiming he was treated as a “public threat.”
The Australian Department of Home Affairs declined to comment on his allegations, citing privacy concerns, while Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley dismissed the controversy, stating, “It was three years ago. We’re focused on delivering a great event.”

Despite the trauma of his detention, Djokovic insists he holds no grudge against Australians, though he acknowledged that his family still harbors resentment. He expressed gratitude for the reinstatement of his visa by the new Australian government.

Now a 24-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic is setting his sights on a record-extending 11th Australian Open title in 2025.
