In a fight against human trafficking, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has rescued 13 trafficked Nigerian girls from Ghana, bringing the total number of repatriated victims since July 2024 to 163.

The girls, aged 19 to 30, were lured to Ghana with false promises of employment but found themselves trapped in exploitative conditions.

The rescue was made possible through a collaborative effort involving NiDCOM, the Ghanaian Anti-Human Trafficking Police, Rescue Live Foundation International, and NIDO Ghana.

NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa commended the teamwork behind the rescue operation and expressed gratitude to First Lady Senator, Oluremi Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru for their pivotal roles in facilitating the victims’ return.

She emphasized that protecting Nigerians abroad aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at combating human trafficking and safeguarding citizens’ rights.

The girls, hailing from states including Ebonyi, Benue, Kaduna, and Rivers, voluntarily surrendered after learning of previous rescue missions in Ghana.

Temporary shelter was provided by Rescue Live Foundation International before their safe repatriation.

Ebonyi State’s Senior Special Assistant, Valentine Uzo, assured that measures for proper rehabilitation and reintegration of the victims are underway, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in dismantling trafficking networks.

This successful operation highlights a steadfast commitment to ending human trafficking and restoring dignity to vulnerable Nigerians.
