Gas Explosion Destroys Six Cars in Katsina

On Friday at Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, a gas cylinder explosion at a filling station damaged six vehicles.

In a statement by the Police Spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the Police provided details of the incident, saying the explosion, which occurred earlier that day, was heard by police officers at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters.

The loud blast prompted the Divisional Police Officer to immediately lead a response team, collaborating with military personnel to assess the situation.

“Upon arrival, the team discovered a truck carrying gas cylinders engulfed in flames at the Tamal Filling Station, located along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road.

“The joint team acted quickly to implement safety measures, preventing further harm and minimizing damage to property. The fire was eventually brought under control,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.

He added that while six vehicles were heavily affected by the fire, fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

The state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has ordered a full investigation into the cause of the explosion.

Sadiq-Aliyu further stated that additional updates would be provided as the investigation unfolds.

Cross River Lawmakers Endorse Gov. Otu for 2027 Re-Election

The Southern caucus of the 10th Cross River House of Assembly has endorsed Governor Bassey Otu for re-election in 2027, citing his achievements in boosting internally generated revenue and governance reforms.

Led by Francis Asuquo (Odukpani constituency), the lawmakers urged residents to support Otu’s second term bid and called on other aspirants to step aside for the governor.

However, Richard Inoyo, a civil society leader, dismissed the endorsement, arguing that the caucus does not represent the people’s will.

Meanwhile, speculation is growing that Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong may challenge Otu in 2027, with his expanding free transport scheme seen as a strategic move.

Kaduna Refinery Hits 60% Completion – NNPCL

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has announced that the Kaduna Refinery has reached over 60% mechanical completion, with operations expected to begin before the end of 2025.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), has launched an investigation into a physical altercation between a female student and a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, at the Faculty of Arts.
