Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has launched a weeklong free medical outreach to enhance healthcare access for residents of Ekiti Central Senatorial District.
The initiative, which began on Monday in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, is organized in partnership with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ekiti State chapter.
Speaking at the event, which saw a large turnout, Senator Bamidele, represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Gbenga Banji, explained that the outreach aims to help Ekiti Central residents understand their health status and receive treatment for previously undiagnosed conditions.
He highlighted that this intervention aligns with his commitment to improving life expectancy and bringing democratic benefits closer to his constituents, regardless of their economic standing.
The outreach will extend across five local government areas within the district, offering a variety of free medical services, including screenings for hypertension and hepatitis, blood sugar tests, antenatal care, family planning counseling, and free eyeglasses.
Senator Bamidele emphasized the program’s significance, noting that many in the district lack the resources for basic healthcare, often resulting in undiagnosed health issues and, in some cases, preventable fatalities.
“Having experienced various stages of life, Senator Bamidele understands the importance of giving back to the community.
“This outreach brings healthcare directly to the grassroots, ensuring that the benefits of democracy make a tangible, positive impact on people’s lives,” Banji said.
Dr. Oreyemi Ifedayo, Chairman of the NMA Ekiti State chapter, applauded the initiative, recognizing it as a crucial relief from the financial burden of medical expenses and a valuable opportunity for residents to access essential healthcare.
The Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeola Ajakaye, also commended Senator Bamidele for initiating the outreach in his hometown, calling it a timely and impactful gesture that will greatly benefit the community.
This free medical outreach marks a vital effort in addressing healthcare challenges in Ekiti Central, providing crucial support to residents and reinforcing Senator Bamidele’s dedication to his constituents’ welfare.
