The Chevening Scholarship applications are now open, running from August 6 to November 5, 2024. Prospective scholars can apply through the online application form available at chevening.org/apply. This prestigious scholarship provides full financial support for pursuing any eligible master’s degree at over 150 universities across the UK. In addition to covering tuition and living expenses, Chevening scholars gain access to an array of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural opportunities.
This year’s application cycle follows the recent selection of 32 scholars from Nigeria who have been awarded Chevening Scholarships to study at UK institutions.
Emma Hennessey, Head of Scholarships at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), highlighted the impact of the Chevening community, stating:
“Chevening Scholars, Fellows, and Alumni use the skills and knowledge they acquire while studying in the UK to drive positive change, creating better living conditions and safer environments globally. Chevening symbolizes the pinnacle of excellence from the UK and beyond, and our scholars join a global network of over 57,000 alumni. The dedication and passion of our Chevening community continually inspire me, and I eagerly anticipate the applications from the next cohort of future leaders.”
Dr. Richard Montgomery, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, emphasized the unique opportunity the Chevening Scholarship offers:
“If you are driven to make an impact, whether on a local or global scale, and if you are eager to excel and inspire others, a Chevening Scholarship could be the ideal opportunity for you. We do not focus on a ‘typical’ scholar profile. Your background, be it age, race, gender, religion, or culture, is not a barrier. What matters is your energy, curiosity, compassion, and a clear vision for your future along with the ability to achieve your goals. Our alumni network consists of dynamic leaders who share the same experience and can provide encouragement, mentorship, and valuable connections. Upon your return to Nigeria, you will be well-prepared to make a significant impact.”
Tolulope Ami-Williams, a 2023 Nigerian Chevening Scholar currently pursuing a master’s degree in Contemporary Performance at Manchester Metropolitan University, shared her transformative experience:
“My time in Manchester has been profoundly transformative. As a Chevening Scholar, I have taken advantage of exceptional networking opportunities, including receiving seed funding, space, and mentorship from the Z-Arts Center to develop my art education methodologies through performance art. One of the highlights was participating as a commissioned artist in the Manchester Histories Festival to celebrate MMU’s 200th anniversary. These experiences have equipped me with the skills and confidence to address socio-economic issues through the arts and inspire my community upon my return to Nigeria.”
