Troops deployed by the Nigerian Army successfully defended Damba Dikko village in Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State from insurgents attempting to extort levies from villagers, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, revealed in a statement on Thursday.
According to Major General Nwachukwu, vigilant troops swiftly responded to the attack, engaging the insurgents in a gun battle and neutralizing two of them. Additionally, two villagers who were held hostage were rescued, with minor injuries, and provided with medical attention by NA paramedics.
In a separate operation on the same day, Nigerian Army troops executed a bold rescue mission in Edo State, extricating four kidnap victims held by a notorious gang of kidnappers in Ososo forest, Akoko Edo Local Government Area. The victims, including a lady and three men, were rescued following a firefight with the criminals.
“One of the kidnappers has been apprehended and is undergoing preliminary investigation, with plans for subsequent handover to the appropriate prosecuting agency,” stated Nwachukwu. He further mentioned that one of the rescued victims, who suffered from shock and fatigue, was evacuated to a medical facility for treatment, while the others were reunited with their families.
The army spokesman expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation and urged continued vigilance. He encouraged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to relevant security agencies, emphasizing the collective effort required to combat security challenges in the country.
