No Approval For Electricity Tariff Hike, AEDC Tells Customers

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, has allayed the fears of its customers over planned increments in electricity tariffs.

The distribution company said there was no such approval to increase energy tariffs.

In a Public Service Announcement to its verified Twitter handle, @aedcelectricity, on Monday, the AEDC urged customers to disregard circulating media report of review of electricity tariffs.

"Please disregard the communication circulating in the media regarding the review of electricity tariffs. Be informed that no approval for such increments has been received.

"We regret any inconvenience," the AEDC said in a pinned announcement.

AbujaCityJournal recalls that Nigerians have been reacting to the planned increments in electricity tariffs effective from July 1, 2023.

The supposed increment, coming a little after total removal of fuel subsidy is being criticised to be ill-timed and insensitive as the people groan over the aftermath of the new subsiidy regime.
