Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca believes the club’s UEFA Europa Conference League triumph can serve as a launchpad for greater success in the near future.
The Blues staged a brilliant comeback to defeat Real Betis 4-1 in Poland, overturning a 1-0 deficit to claim their first-ever Conference League title.
With the victory, Chelsea became the first club in history to win all three of UEFA’s major club competitions.
Second-half goals from Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho, and Moises Caicedo sealed the emphatic win, marking a memorable end to Maresca’s debut season in charge.
In addition to the trophy, Chelsea secured a return to the UEFA Champions League by finishing fourth in the Premier League.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the final whistle, Maresca expressed pride in his team’s performance and hinted at a promising future.
“The message after the Nottingham game was clear — if we want to be an important team, what we’ve done so far isn’t enough. We needed to win the final,” said the Italian tactician.
“I’m very proud and happy for many reasons. Personally, I feel good, but I’m especially pleased for the fans. They’ve waited two or three years for moments like this – they deserve it.”
Maresca also acknowledged the club’s heavy investment in recent years and hopes the Conference League title marks the beginning of a new era.
“The club has spent a lot over the last three or four years. Everyone has been waiting for results.
“Hopefully, this can be the starting point, and we can build something important from here.”
