Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time leading goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, was honored with a special award by UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin for his remarkable achievements in the competition. The recognition was given during the inaugural 2024/25 UEFA Champions League 36-team league phase draw ceremony, held on Thursday, August 29, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Ronaldo’s record in the Champions League is unmatched, with 140 goals scored in 183 appearances, putting him 11 goals ahead of Lionel Messi and 46 goals ahead of Robert Lewandowski, who sits in third place. His extraordinary performance over more than 18 years in Europe’s premier club competition was celebrated at the event.

The Portuguese forward has led the Champions League as the top scorer in seven different seasons, a feat no other player has achieved. Ronaldo’s accomplishments in the competition include winning it once with Manchester United and four times with Real Madrid, making him the first player to win the title five times since 1992. He also stands alone as the only player to have scored in three different Champions League finals.

In addition to these achievements, Ronaldo holds the record for the longest scoring streak in Champions League history, having scored in 11 consecutive matches from June 2017 to April 2018. He has also netted eight hat-tricks in the competition.

Beyond his club success, Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in all UEFA club competitions, with 145 goals in 197 appearances. He also holds the title of the most prolific player in men’s international football, with 130 goals in 212 appearances.

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin praised Ronaldo for his sustained excellence at the highest level, noting his relentless pursuit of both team and individual honors, as well as his professionalism, work ethic, dedication, and ability to excel on football’s grandest stage.
