Following their alleged roles in the failed invasion of the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly, 29 individuals believed to be Yoruba Nation agitators appeared before the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Wednesday.
The case, identified by charge number Mi/520c/2024, pits the Commissioner of Police against the 29 suspects.
The suspects, accused of involvement in the incident where masked individuals suspected to be Yoruba Nation agitators stormed the state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in an attempt to hoist their flag, were promptly demobilized by joint security personnel.
The charges against them include seven counts of treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
Bakare Rasaq, the Investigative Police Officer, an inspector with the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, presented the case, asserting that the offenses committed by the suspects contravene Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
