“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the immediate re-arrest of Onyebuchi Nwobodo and Ebube Umezumba, following an administrative lapse by a police prosecutor.
“The Command has filed a new charge before the High Court, and fresh testimonies by victims have directly linked the suspects to the case,” the statement read.

According to him, the decisive action underscores the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law.
The Anambra Command has in recent months recorded several re-arrests of high-profile suspects.
On May 7, operatives rearrested Ikemefuna Ossai, a key suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Justice Azuka, the late member representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
Ossai, who earlier escaped from custody, was tracked across multiple states and apprehended in Asaba, Delta State, during an intelligence-led operation.
Police authorities reaffirmed their resolve to pursue all suspects linked to violent crimes in the state, assuring the public of continuous efforts to restore peace and security.
