The Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), Ekiti Diocese, crowned its new ambassadors of faith and culture at the 2025 biennial congress held at the Federal Government Technical College, Usi-Ekiti.
At the Dinner Night marking the close of the four-day event, Miss Francisca Blessing Ojo of Ilawe Deanery emerged Miss CYON Ekiti Diocese 2025, while Mr. Clement Jegede of Ikere Deanery was named Mr. CYON Ekiti Diocese 2025 after a keenly contested beauty pageant.
The congress, which ran from September 4-7 under the theme “You are also my witnesses because you have been with me” (John 15:27), featured a rich mix of liturgical, educational, and recreational activities, including Holy Mass, quiz competitions, talks on inculturation and Catholicism, aerobics, campfire sessions, and Ojúde CYON.
In his homily at the opening Mass, Bishop Felix Femi Ajakaye, represented by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Femi Adetola, urged Catholic youths to value time and live responsibly.
“Doing the right thing at the right time produces positive results, while doing the right thing at the wrong time could be disastrous,” he said, encouraging the youths to be steadfast witnesses to Christ.
Planning Committee Chairman, Mr. Zaccheaus Taiwo Adaramoye, expressed gratitude to the bishop, chaplains, parish priests, and sponsors for their support, noting that the congress was a platform for youths to rediscover their values and potentials.
“Your life makes a difference. Guard your affection, for it influences everything in your life,” he advised.
The congress drew wide participation from across the diocese and attracted notable guests, including former Diocesan CYON Chaplain Rev. Fr. John Paul Ogundipe, Ibadan Provincial Provost of the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria Prince Thomas Adegoke Abaekere, Ekiti Diocesan CWO President Lady Helen Iyabo Omodara, National Coordinator of the Young Missionary Movement (YOMM), Mr. Peter Adunbi, and former Diocesan CYON President Mr. Emmanuel Owoofe.
