Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP), presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has announced a temporary withdrawal from public activities to attend to his health.

Obi made this known on Saturday via his verified X handle in a post titled “Supporting Healthcare, Building Hope.”

He said the decision followed medical advice from his personal physician after he began feeling unwell during recent engagements.

The former governor revealed that after speaking at a tourism event in Enugu, he visited the Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo, Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, currently being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, where he donated ₦10 million to support the hospital’s revitalisation.

He commended the Diocese’s vision to transform the facility into a comprehensive health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, stressing the importance of faith-based organisations in delivering quality healthcare.

Obi later travelled to Owerri for a private dinner in honour of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, but disclosed that he was already feeling unwell. A doctor subsequently advised him to rest for at least two days.

“In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend,” Obi said, apologising for any inconvenience caused.

Former Rivers State Governor and ADC chieftain, Rotimi Amaechi, says President Bola Tinubu can be voted out in 2027 if Nigerians participate actively in the elections.

Speaking at the fifth anniversary lecture of First Daily newspaper in Abuja, Amaechi argued that Tinubu’s 2023 loss in Lagos showed he is “not invincible.”

He warned that voter apathy and complacency enable electoral fraud, stressing that citizens must take responsibility for credible elections.

“The more you say results have been written, the more voter apathy increases. Voter apathy will make President Tinubu return to Villa,” he said.

Amaechi, who declared his intention to run for president, blamed the opposition’s disunity for its repeated failures, adding that “no incumbent government can achieve electoral reform.”

At the same event, Senator Seriake Dickson described election rigging as “the worst coup against democracy,” while political analyst Dr. Sam Amadi called for reforms to restore the independence of electoral institutions.

The lecture, themed “2027: How Can We Make Our Votes Count?”, ended with a call for citizens’ vigilance and stronger electoral laws ahead of the 2027 polls.

An Oyo State High Court has cleared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to hold the party’s national convention on November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan.

Justice A. L. Akintola gave the ruling on Monday, vacating an earlier order of a Federal High Court in Abuja that had restrained the PDP from proceeding with the exercise.

The Abuja court had, on October 31, halted preparations for the convention following a suit by three PDP members, Austin Nwachukwu, Amah Nnanna, and Turnah George, who alleged breaches of the party’s constitution and due process.

With the latest decision, the Oyo court has effectively cleared the way for the convention to hold as scheduled.
