The Federal Government has launched a digital portal to create a credible database of Nigerian teachers, streamline licensing, and enhance professionalism in the education sector.
The initiative, unveiled in Abuja by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), in collaboration with the UK-funded Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), is designed to transform teacher management nationwide.
Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, described the launch as a milestone, saying the platform would drive innovation and efficiency in teacher registration and development.
“With this portal, technology becomes the heartbeat of teacher professionalism in our country,” she said.
The platform will enable seamless registration and licensing of teachers, ensure transparency in the database of qualified educators, provide real-time access to professional development, and strengthen accountability.
Also speaking, Ian Attfield, Senior Education Adviser at the British High Commission, reaffirmed the UK’s support for the project, stressing the need for improved training and motivation for teachers across community, faith-based, and private schools.
