The Abahun of Iyamoye, Chief Faniyan Sheriff Ige, has called on His Royal Majesty, Oba Ibrahim Ademinuyi Momoh, the Afiwajoye I of Iyamoye Kingdom, to restructure the chieftaincy structure of Iyamoye to align with modern times.
The Abahun of Iyamoye affirmed that the structure is outdated and can no longer meet the current realities of the kingdom, lamenting that fallout from chieftaincy titles and structure has caused so much division and has torn apart the fabric of unity enjoyed for years.
Chief Ige, who spoke in an exclusive interview with ‘Abuja City Journal’, said the Iyamoye Traditional Council should be focused on promoting and driving unity, not disunity.
He admonished the Oba to listen to the voice of reason and appeal to those offended as a result of chieftaincy matters that have brought Iyamoye to a stagnant point due to disunity among “Brothers.”
He also recommended that the Oba should call for a roundtable discussion among all the “Brothers” (segments) that make up Iyamoye.
He appealed to the Oba and the chiefs to respect the decision of their ancestors who chose to come together as one kingdom. He urged them to drop pride and ego, forgive each other, and think progressively for the good of Iyamoye and the generations to come.
Saying that power is transient in nature, the Abahun of Iyamoye admitted that authority is power but argued that there is no authority without procedure. He charged all the Traditional Council to always follow the laid-down procedure in all their dealings to avoid division and disunity.
Specifically, Chief Ige appealed to the Kabiyesi to always listen to and implement productive ideas, noting that only progressive-minded people are needed around him. He then appealed to the Oba to bring elites and educated people into the council.
This, he said, will attract fortune, partnerships, connections, infrastructure, boost the local economy, education, investment, and other good things to develop Iyamoye.
Concerned about the youths, he charged them to be vehicles of change, rescue Iyamoye, and stimulate the interest of the elites who have left Iyamoye and are no longer interested in it.
In a special appeal to all sons and daughters of Iyamoye Kingdom in other parts of Nigeria and those in the diaspora, the Abahun of Iyamoye, Chief Faniyan Sheriff Ige, urged them to always remember home and asked them to come back, build their homes, and invest in them.
