The Saint Maria Goretti Old Girls Association (SMAGOGA), Abuja branch, has launched a school-based advocacy campaign aimed at tackling sexual abuse and promoting chastity among youths.

The maiden outreach, held at St. Aloysius Secondary School, Garki, carried the theme “Chastity and Abstinence: A Path to Purposeful Living” and brought together students, religious leaders, public officials, and civil society advocates for a powerful call to action.
Leading the charge was Mrs. Linda Etute, President of SMAGOGA and CEO of Amclins Ronamary Ltd.
In her welcome address, she urged students to embrace self-worth, resist peer pressure, and speak out against abuse.
“We are here to inspire you to make informed life choices. Saint Maria Goretti’s legacy of virtue and forgiveness in the face of abuse is a model for this generation,” Mrs. Etute said.
A short film and documentary on the life of Saint Maria Goretti, the school’s patron saint, deeply moved attendees, reinforcing the campaign’s core message of courage, chastity, and moral resilience.
Key presentations followed, including a talk on “Healthy Life, Healthy Future” by Dame (Dr.), Perpetual Uhomoibhi, retired Director of the National Malaria Elimination Programme.
She emphasized the need for holistic well-being-mental, physical, and spiritual.
Other speakers included Rev. Mother Oresoa Agatha Selo-Ojeme of Anawim Homes, Barrister Joy Ojehomon of Grace Works Foundation, and Chief Mary Angela Momoh of the Society for the Abuse of Minors.
Each offered expert advice on mentorship, healing, and self-empowerment, especially for victims of abuse.
Representatives from NAPTIP, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, and Social Welfare Services were also present, sharing resources and hotlines for students to access confidential help and support.
Explaining the choice of venue, Dame Uhomoibhi, a SMAGOGA member, noted the school’s alignment with the group’s Catholic roots and said future campaigns would be extended to public schools across the FCT and beyond.
“This is only the beginning. Our vision is national. We want every child to hear this message and know their rights,” she affirmed.
Mrs. Etute further announced that the outreach would become an annual campaign, supported by contributions from SMAGOGA members and sponsors across different graduating sets.
“This is not just a project, it’s a movement. As mothers, we owe our children the duty of speaking up and showing them the right path,” she said.
The campaign will continue on July 6, 2025, during a special Thanksgiving Mass at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Abuja, in celebration of Saint Maria Goretti’s feast day and the values she represents.
The event ended with music, student performances, and a rendition of the Saint Maria Goretti anthem, led by Ehis Daniel, leaving students motivated to protect their dignity, dreams, and destiny.
