The Rock of Ages Empowerment Foundation (RAEF), marked the 15th edition of International Widows Day with a major outreach programme that combined humanitarian relief and practical economic empowerment for widows across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Held at the foundation’s permanent site in Pyakasa Community, Galadimawa, Abuja, the event was themed “Uplifting Widows: Dignity, Inclusion, and Economic Strength.”
It brought together hundreds of widows from more than 15 zones across the FCT, including Masaka, Kabusa, Gbese, Suleja, Kuje, Garki, and Nyanya.
The celebration, which featured distribution of food items, clothing, and essential supplies, aimed to cushion the economic hardship widows face while equipping them with tools to build self-sustaining livelihoods.
Speaking on behalf of the Programme Director, Mrs. Rita I.G. Newman, Brother Benedict described the event as a reminder that widows are not forgotten.
He emphasized that the Rock of Ages Foundation is committed to supporting them physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In a seminar session titled “Growing Wealth from Little Resources,” motivational speaker Ms. Ngozi urged the widows to explore small-scale business opportunities. “Start with what you have, however little. With focus and faith, you can grow something meaningful,” she encouraged.
Evangelist Ezeigbo Ignatius Newman, President and Founder of RAEF and General Overseer of Mountain Top Prayer Global Assembly, delivered the keynote address.
He shared how the legacy of his late mother, who cared for widows, inspired him to start the foundation in 2009; six years before the United Nations formally recognized June 23 as International Widows Day.
“This is more than a charity. It’s a mission to restore hope and dignity to widows. God is your husband, and through this foundation, He is meeting your needs,” he told the cheering crowd.
The event also celebrated high-performing zones. Gbese Zone was awarded Most Efficient, Kabusa Zone took home the Most Punctual award, and Uke Zone was named the Most Striving.
In addition to the relief packages, the programme included a free medical outreach, music, and emotional testimonies from widows who have been empowered through RAEF’s previous initiatives.
One beneficiary said: “RAEF lifted me when I had nothing. Today, I feed my children through the small business I started with their help. I’m so grateful.”
The event ended with prayers led by Brother Chinedu, as widows left with renewed hope, strengthened by community support and equipped with knowledge to improve their lives.
With every edition, RAEF continues to prove that true empowerment means meeting both immediate needs and planting seeds for long-term growth.
