The Nigerian Army has confirmed the detention of Corporal Amina Maidoki, a senior female officer, following serious allegations of theft and other professional misconduct.
In an official statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, the Army clarified that Maidoki’s detention is in full compliance with the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20 LFN 2004) and other internal disciplinary protocols governing the conduct of military personnel.
According to the statement, the allegations levelled against Corporal Maidoki suggest conduct grossly incompatible with the values and ethical standards of the Nigerian Army.
The nature of the allegations, which include theft, prompted swift action in accordance with military legal procedures.
“As a disciplined and professional institution, the Nigerian Army adheres to the highest standards of military ethics.
“Disciplinary measures are never arbitrary, but follow due process to ensure fairness and justice for all personnel,” Lt. Col. Anele said.
The Army also stressed that the ongoing investigation respects Corporal Maidoki’s legal and human rights, adding that she is being provided with appropriate welfare and support during her temporary detention.
Addressing circulating claims of unlawful detention and denial of legal representation, the Army dismissed such assertions as baseless and misleading, designed to provoke unnecessary public sentiment.
“We urge the public to disregard these unfounded allegations and allow the investigation to run its course without interference.
“Further updates will be provided in due time,” the statement added.
The Army called for calm and urged the public to avoid speculation while the facts surrounding the case are thoroughly established.
