A 24-year-old man, Victor Akande, has been arraigned before an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti for allegedly threatening the life of the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti, Most Rev. Felix Femi Ajakaye.
According to the police charge, the incident occurred on January 15, 2025, at around 8:30 p.m. at the Bishop’s residence.
Akande was accused of conducting himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, violating Sections 46 and 181(1)(d) of the Ekiti State Laws, 2021.
When the charges were read, Akande pleaded not guilty.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Bamikole Olasunkanmi, informed the court of his intention to call three witnesses and requested a date for their appearance.
The defendant’s counsel, Opeyemi Esan, noted that the Bishop, represented in court by a priest, had pardoned Akande but recommended rehabilitation. He pleaded for bail on liberal terms.
Magistrate Adefunke Anoma ruled that there was no formal basis to strike out the case but granted Akande bail at ₦10,000 with one surety who must be a resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to January 28, 2025, for either a settlement report or hearing.
