At the Armed Forces Inter-Denominational Service in Abuja on January 12, 2025, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama called on Nigerians to go beyond symbolic tributes and offer concrete support to security forces who continue to sacrifice their lives for the nation’s peace and security.

Reflecting on the fallen heroes who had given their lives in service to the country, the Archbishop emphasized the importance of honoring their memory through actions that support the families they left behind. He urged both political authorities and the general public to ensure timely payment of benefits to the families of fallen soldiers and provide essential resources to support the veterans still alive. He also called for enhanced welfare for the military personnel, asserting that these measures would encourage continued selfless service among active soldiers.

Kaigama condemned the growing insecurity in the nation, urging that the root causes of conflict—such as poverty, ethnic division, and the violation of human rights—must be addressed for lasting peace. He stressed that justice should be the foundation of peace, warning against the temptation to rely on power, violence, or wealth to resolve conflicts.

The Archbishop also highlighted the need for collaboration among the various arms of Nigeria’s security forces, likening their teamwork to that of ants, whose cooperation leads to collective survival and success. He emphasized that the authorities must provide modern weaponry and transparent resources to ensure the military can effectively combat the threats facing the nation.

In his closing remarks, Kaigama appealed for a renewed commitment to building a more united and prosperous Nigeria, grounded in moral principles and the pursuit of the common good. He called on Nigerians to adopt a new attitude—centered on national interests—and to support the country’s efforts in overcoming its current challenges.

The Archbishop’s message was a powerful reminder that honoring the sacrifices of Nigeria’s security forces requires more than just words; it demands tangible support and commitment from every citizen.
