The Federal Government (FG), is ramping up efforts to address the perennial traffic congestion in Lagos State ahead of the busy Christmas season.

This initiative aims to ensure smoother movement for residents and visitors during the festive period, with particular focus on improving the condition of federal roads.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, assured the public that the government is prioritizing road infrastructure to alleviate traffic challenges.

She emphasized that smaller roads would also receive attention to complement efforts on major highways, ensuring seamless transit across the city.

Mrs. Kesha reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to adhering to project timelines and completing federal road projects within Lagos State on schedule.

She expressed optimism that ongoing and planned works would significantly enhance mobility, providing relief during the expected influx of visitors during the festive season.

She acknowledged the unique challenges posed by Lagos, a state characterized by high vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Drawing on the successful rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge as an example, Kesha highlighted the ministry’s experience and capability in managing complex infrastructure projects.

Additionally, she stressed the importance of keeping the public informed about roadworks, closures, or diversions, ensuring that disruptions are minimized.

“We do not take people for granted,” she said, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to effective communication and public convenience.

The efforts reflect a broader strategy to create a more navigable Lagos, fostering an environment that benefits both residents and tourists during the high-traffic festive period.
