Nigerian gospel singer Shola Allyson has revealed that although she is still legally married, she no longer lives with her husband.
Speaking on Oyinmomo TV, the 54-year-old artiste reflected on her marital journey and the contrast between her personal experiences and the romantic narratives often associated with her music, including her breakout album Eji Owuro.
Allyson said her marriage did not deliver the “happily ever after” many assume, despite her efforts to make it work.
“I’m married, but I’m not living in my husband’s house. We stay apart,” she said, adding that her understanding of love had been shaped by unrealistic expectations handed down by older generations.
“Our elders made us believe happiness in marriage is automatic once there is love. But that’s not my story,” she stated.
Her candid remarks have triggered wide reactions online, with many fans praising her openness about marital struggles and the realities that often lie behind celebrated love songs.
