PDP Is Dead – Kwankwaso Declares

Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “dead party,” while also harshly criticizing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its failure to effectively govern the country.

Speaking during the NNPP’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Monday, October 1, Kwankwaso expressed disappointment with both major political parties, claiming that neither is equipped to handle Nigeria’s current challenges. According to him, the APC has shown itself to be out of touch with the realities facing everyday Nigerians, while the PDP, which once held significant influence, has become irrelevant.

Kwankwaso stated, “The PDP, as it stands today, is a dead party. There are so many concerns within their fold, and it has become clear that the party no longer has the political strength to address the needs of Nigerians.”

He also turned his focus to the APC, accusing the ruling party of being disconnected from the plight of the people. “The APC leadership is simply up in the air, far removed from the daily struggles and realities on the ground. They seem to have an illusion about the challenges faced by citizens across the country,” he said.

Muhammad Bello El-Rufai, member representing Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, has expressed sadness over the rift between his father, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and the incumbent Governor Uba Sani.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Bello revealed that while both men have played significant roles in his life, his father as a mentor and Sani as his political leader, resolving their differences is beyond his responsibility.

He lamented that some individuals seem to take pleasure in the ongoing dispute, likening it to scenes from Bollywood movies.

Despite his deep respect for both figures, he maintained that his primary focus remains on delivering quality representation to his constituents.

Bello also acknowledged the unpredictability of human relationships, emphasizing the importance of reconciliation.

However, he admitted uncertainty about the true nature of the alleged feud, stating that neither party had discussed it with him directly.

“It is painful to witness this situation. Even if someone is my enemy, I do not wish to see them in conflict with another,” he said.

The discord between El-Rufai and Sani has been a subject of public speculation, but neither leader has openly addressed the matter.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Alhaji Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and other key officials in President Bola Tinubu’s administration to ignore criticisms from opposition figures and remain focused on their duties.

Kwankwaso commended Ribadu’s leadership in counterterrorism efforts, highlighting significant security gains, including the reclaiming of previously unsafe areas and the neutralization of insurgents and bandits.

He alleged that some opposition members are unsettled by Ribadu’s achievements and are attempting to undermine his work.

However, he urged the NSA and other government officials to remain committed to national security and governance.

The APC stalwart also expressed confidence in the party’s growing influence in Kano, citing recent defections from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and predicting that the APC would reclaim the state in the next election.
