The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) continues to make significant strides in its mission to apprehend perpetrators of heinous crimes across the nation. This commitment was reaffirmed in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday.
Over the past month, the NPF has made commendable progress in its anti-crime operations, arresting 295 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnappers, and 271 individuals linked to murder or homicide cases. The Force also apprehended 71 suspects for unlawful possession of firearms and 199 individuals involved in sexual offenses. Furthermore, 143 cultists were arrested, alongside 1,575 suspects linked to various other crimes.
The NPF’s successful operations also led to the recovery of 185 firearms, 4,087 rounds of ammunition, 111 stolen vehicles, and the rescue of 129 kidnapped victims. These statistics demonstrate the Force’s relentless efforts in safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
One of the most notable accomplishments in recent weeks was the dismantling of a notorious gunrunning syndicate operating within the Bauchi-Plateau region. Five members of the group, identified as Taimako Mato (leader), John Danladi, Mohammed Munkail, Manasseh William, and Muhammadu Haddi, were arrested during a strategic operation.
The suspects were found in possession of a PKT Machine Gun, 40 rounds of 37.2mm ammunition, and 95 rounds of 62mm cartridges. Taimako Mato, the leader of the syndicate, is a former Boko Haram camp instructor, specialized in handling weapons. His expertise and connections allowed him to procure prohibited firearms and distribute them through his network of accomplices to various buyers.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who has been at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force since his appointment, has continuously emphasized his commitment to reducing crime across all regions of the country. Through a series of well-coordinated operations, the Force has been able to suppress violent crimes, bring criminals to justice, and recover stolen property and weapons.
In his latest statement, the IGP reassured the public that the NPF remains dedicated to protecting lives and property while maintaining professionalism and adherence to the rule of law. He reiterated that the Force has introduced several new strategies and tactics to combat criminal activities more effectively. These measures aim to not only deter crime but also to ensure that offenders are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
