The Abia State Government has completed plans to train 2000 master trainers for teachers in the state.
Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, said this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Alex Otti on Monday.
He added that 200 teachers had completed the training, and the remaining 1,800 will do so soon.
He stated that the Abia State Basic Education Board has vetted, interviewed, and shortlisted 40 teachers for training through the Abia State School Enhancement Team Program.
He also revealed that the state has began assigning security guards at public schools, a practice he claims is intended to protect students’ lives and property.
“This is part of the state government’s overall plan to modernize our educational system.
“Also, as part of the ongoing educational reform agenda, the state government’s promise to put security officers in our schools has been fulfilled.
“Posting security personnel is aimed at securing the lives and property of both the students, teachers, and the property of the schools involved,” he told me.
Kanu further revealed that a total of 5,746 ASUBEB employees had been targeted for promotion, stating that this is a means to push employees to be more productive.
According to him, the board has selected 40 people for the Abia State School Enhancement Team program to ensure quality assurance and compliance with school policies.
The commissioner declared that the state government would open the newly renovated eye center, which is an annexe of Abia Specialist Hospital in Amachara, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
