2027: Let’s Come Together to Defeat Tinubu – Atiku Tells PDP, Labour Party

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), sent a stirring statement on Democracy Day calling for a united opposition to confront the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Atiku emphasised the importance of opposition parties working together to establish a formidable front against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Atiku’s appeal, which was conveyed through a tweet, highlighted the responsibility of the opposition parties in fostering unity and crafting a coherent strategy to win the trust of the Nigerian populace. He stated, “But the opposition political parties are even more guilty than the ruling party for the seeming lack of capacity to come together and galvanize a coalition that will retire the ruling party and articulate a plan of good governance that will earn the conviction of Nigerians.”

Atiku’s statement reflects a growing sentiment among political observers and stakeholders who believe that a divided opposition will only bolster the APC’s hold on power. He urged the PDP, Labour Party, and other opposition factions to set aside their differences and prioritize the nation’s future by forming a coalition that can effectively challenge the ruling party’s policies and present a viable alternative for the electorate.

The former Vice President underscored that the APC’s prolonged dominance was not merely due to its political strategies but also because of the fragmented nature of the opposition. By coming together, Atiku believes, the opposition can offer a robust policy framework that addresses the critical issues facing Nigeria, such as economic instability, insecurity, and corruption.

In his tweet, Atiku also alluded to the importance of good governance and the need for the opposition to not only focus on winning elections but also on presenting clear and actionable plans that would resonate with Nigerians. “Articulating a plan of good governance,” he said, “is essential for earning the conviction of Nigerians who are yearning for real change and development.”

Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Osun State, has commended President Bola Tinubu for seeking Senate approval to dismiss three suspended Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), over alleged misconduct in the 2023 general elections.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye described the sack of Ike Uzochukwu (Abia), Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa), and Nura Ali (Sokoto) as a crucial step in sanitizing Nigeria’s electoral system.

He also praised the Senate for approving Tinubu’s request, emphasizing that it reinforces accountability and serves as a warning against electoral malpractice.

The former lawmaker lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for initially suspending the RECs in March 2023 and for securing the conviction of Prof. Ignatius Udok for electoral fraud.

He urged Tinubu to sustain the fight against corruption, noting that these actions restore public confidence in the electoral process.
