The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a weather forecast predicting a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region on Monday, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms in parts of Taraba later in the day. The North-Central region is also expected to experience sunny skies with cloud patches, while thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Benue State in the afternoon and evening.
For the southern states, cloudy skies are expected in the morning with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom. By afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms are likely over Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Imo, Abia, Edo, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Bayelsa.
On Tuesday, NiMet anticipates sunny skies with cloud patches in the northern region and prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa, Kaduna, and Taraba later in the day. The North-Central region will likely be predominantly cloudy, with thunderstorms expected over Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, and Nasarawa states during the afternoon and evening hours.
The southern states are expected to have a cloudy morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms over Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Delta, and Lagos later in the day.
On Wednesday, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is forecasted for the northern region. Isolated thunderstorms are likely over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna in the late hours. The North-Central region will be cloudy with intervals of sunshine in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms expected over Abuja, Plateau, Niger, Kwara, and Kogi later in the day.
The southern states will experience a cloudy morning, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River. Thunderstorms are expected to continue later in the day over Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ebonyi, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.
NiMet has urged the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The agency also advised airlines to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
