The discovery of a headless body of a middle-aged woman in the Oke Baale area of Osogbo sent shockwaves through the community on Tuesday morning. The gruesome find occurred behind shops opposite the Osogbo Local Government Council Secretariat.
According to reports, the victim, identified as a homeless woman who had been residing in the area for months, was brutally murdered, with her hands severed by her alleged assailants, suspected to be ritualists.
The chilling incident prompted fear among traders and shop owners in the vicinity, causing them to refrain from opening their shops for business, apprehensive of potential arrests by law enforcement agencies.
Residents and passersby gathered at the scene as reporters arrived around midday, but notably absent were security agents and local government authorities, who made no effort to remove the corpse.
Lawal Akinwumi, a resident, informed reporters that the deceased woman had been begging for alms beside the road for months. He urged the state government and relevant authorities to intervene by evacuating the body and conducting a thorough investigation into the gruesome killing.
Despite efforts to obtain information, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Osun State Command, Yemisi Opalola, did not respond to inquiries from reporters. Similarly, the Spokesperson of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke, admitted to not being briefed on the incident but pledged to provide updates.
