The highly anticipated 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) ceremony is set to take place in Lagos on May 10, 2024. Organizers of the prestigious event have unveiled the list of nominations, stirring excitement and anticipation among the entertainment industry and fans alike.
This year, the AMVCA introduces a significant change in the selection process, with categories such as Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress to be determined by a jury, departing from the previous public voting system.
Leading the nominations is Tolu Ajayi’s “Over the Bridge,” which secured an impressive 12 nominations, including nods for Best Movie, Best Director, and Best Lead Actress. Following closely is CJ Fiery Obasi’s monochromatic masterpiece “Mami Wata,” with 11 nominations, while “Breath of Life” and “Jagun Jagun – The Warrior” garnered 10 nominations each.
Notable contenders include “Blood Vessel,” recognized with eight nominations, and “Afamefuna,” which earned four nominations.
The extensive list of nominations spans various categories, including Best Digital Content, Best Indigenous Language Film, Best Multichoice Talent Factory Movie, Best Scripted M-Net Original, Best Unscripted M-Net Original, and many more.
In the acting categories, Timini Egbuson and Funke Akindele stand out with nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Best Actress, respectively, for their roles in the blockbuster film “A Tribe Called Judah.” The movie itself earned a total of five nominations.
The AMVCA nominations showcase the diversity and richness of African cinema, with entries from different regions and languages across the continent. From West Africa to East and South Africa, the lineup represents the best of African storytelling and filmmaking talent.
