Armed robbers carried out a series of daring raids on the Angwan Jaba hamlet in New Karu, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa state, leaving a trail of loot and injuries behind them. Witnesses recount the horrific experience of watching as the robbers attack the community, taking six motorcycles and wounding several residents.
Sigir Muhammed Salisu, one of the victims whose bike was brutally snatched, informed Abuja City Journal that the incident occurred on Monday at 7:30 p.m., near the Glova Hotel and Deeper Life Church. He claimed that two individuals attacked him and struck him on the head with a cutlass and other potentially lethal weapons. At present, Karu Local Government’s unnamed hospital is treating Sigir.

On Wednesday night, Abuja City Journal visited the hospital where many of the victims are now being treated and discovered that Abinuku Bama, another victim, had been gravely injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed assailants arrived on the hamlet under cover of darkness, holding hazardous weapons and waylaying motorcycles, a common occurrence.
A motorcyclist who did not want his name published told the Abuja City Journal that one of the primary suspects, a former Immigration officer who was fired by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), had become an infamous bike robber in the region. He said that after being turned over to the police, the local vigilante group had apprehended him multiple times and released him.
When Abuja City Journal reached out to Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Gbenga Odeyemi, he was unable to provide confirmation of the event. His statement was, “I’m not aware of such development.”
This confirms eyewitness reports that, following the armed bandits’ siege of the region on Monday night, the Police carried out many raids.
The incidence was confirmed by Mallam Usman D. Adamu, Seriki Hausawa of New Karu, in an exclusive interview with Abuja City Journal. He mentioned that he has previously reported other incidents of this nature to the authorities. He added that he had meetings with motorbike riders to avoid having to transport two people at once, particularly to places they were unfamiliar with.
He said “Let them [motorcyclists] come and let us advise them though we have done it several times. We met the stakeholders several times on this issue not to carry two people.”
The community leader condemned the brazenness of the attackers and the harm inflicted on innocent residents. He vowed to collaborate with security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and enhance security measures within the community.
