The Bauchi State Police Command has nabbed a 19-year-old male in connection with the suspected murder of a commercial sex worker in the Bauchi Local Government Area. The suspect’s identity has been concealed, according to SP Ahmad Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in a statement made on Wednesday in Bauchi.
The tragic incident unfolded on Monday when the suspect reportedly fatally stabbed Emmanuella Ande during a heated argument in a hotel room at Happiness Garden in Bayan Gari. SP Wakil revealed that the dispute escalated when the deceased demanded a payment of N5,000 for her services during a previous encounter. This led to a physical confrontation, resulting in the victim sustaining a serious injury that ultimately led to her death.
During the altercation, the suspect also stabbed another individual who had attempted to rescue the deceased. SP Wakil explained, “The arrest was made following a distress call received from a good Samaritan that on the same date, at about 6:45 p.m., the suspect entered a hotel room of Happiness Garden situated at Bayan Gari.”
The police intervened promptly to prevent potential mob violence and referred the victims, including the fatally injured Emmanuella Ande and the other stabbing victim, Zaharaddeen Adamu, to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.
Tragically, Emmanuella Ande was pronounced dead by a medical doctor based on the doctor’s report, and her body was deposited at the morgue. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect and the deceased had initially met on Facebook earlier in the year.
Disturbingly, it was also uncovered that the suspect had debited N400,000 from his father’s bank account to spend time with his girlfriend. A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered by the police at the crime scene.
