The Nigeria Head of Mission in Tunisia, Hakeem Oladepo Falusi, demonstrated his support for Rivers United by paying a visit to the players and officials at their hotel ahead of the crucial CAF Confederation Cup matchday four tie against Club Africain of Tunisia.
Accompanied by Olu Mustapha, Head of Chancery in the Embassy of Nigeria in Tunis, Falusi visited the team at Hotel Ez-Zahra Dar Tunis to offer encouragement and foster a sense of familiarity before the intense encounter scheduled at the 60,000-capacity Stade de Rades.
The delegation, which included Rivers United General Manager Dr. Okey Kpalukwu, Secretary Ahmed Abdulraman, Technical Manager Stanley Eguma, and NFF representative Ali Cairo, warmly welcomed His Excellency Falusi.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Dr. Kpalukwu acknowledged the significance of the Head of Mission’s support, emphasizing its potential to inspire the team’s performance.
He urged Rivers United, known as the Pride of Rivers, to make the nation proud by securing a victory against Club Africain, highlighting that the team is not only representing their state but the entire country on the international stage.
Dr. Kpalukwu stated, “You also have the country behind you. The flag you are flying is also a Nigeria flag now. It’s not only your state that will be proud of you; Nigeria will also be proud of your victory.”
He further emphasized the importance of the visit in addressing logistical concerns and ensuring the team’s well-being, aiming to eliminate potential issues that could hinder their focus on the game.
In response, team captain Nyima Nwagua expressed gratitude for the hospitality and shared the players’ happiness at the presence of Embassy officials upon their arrival at the airport. He assured the Head of Mission that the team is determined to give their best and not let the nation down in the upcoming match.
