Fulham manager Marco Silva praised his team’s resilience and composure as they clinched a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, prevailing over Everton in a tense penalty shootout at Goodison Park.
The Cottagers seized the lead just before halftime when Antonee Robinson’s cross deflected off Michael Keane and found its way past Jordan Pickford. However, Everton’s substitute Beto managed to head home an equalizer, forcing the tie into penalties as full-time approached.
Fulham maintained their composure during the penalty shootout, with Tosin Adarabioyo netting the decisive spot-kick that secured the club’s first-ever appearance in the League Cup final four.
Marco Silva expressed pride in his players for their performance in a high-pressure atmosphere, stating, “It is incredible what the players have been doing with our support and management. We wanted to make history in this football club; it is a serious approach in this competition and not just tonight.”
Silva acknowledged the challenge of facing Everton, a team in good form, and emphasized the difficulty of playing at Goodison Park. Despite taking the lead, Silva noted the unwavering support from the Everton fans and acknowledged the tactical changes made to regain control after conceding the late equalizer.
“We did change four or five players from the last game, tonight we knew it was going to be very tough as Everton are in a good moment,” said Silva. “When we conceded and it went 1-1, I made some tactical changes, but after the changes, I think we did control the game much better.”
The Portuguese tactician commended his team’s maturity and composure during the penalty shootout, highlighting their ability to handle the pressure and secure the historic victory. Fulham will now eagerly await their semi-final fixture in the Carabao Cup.
