The National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) in Kaduna has initiated a comprehensive training program for 76 teachers, focusing on remote teaching and e-learning. The five-day training, a collaborative effort between the NTI and the Federal Ministry of Education, aims to equip teachers from 18 states under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with strategies for effective remote teaching and e-learning.
Prof. Musa Garba-Maitafsir, the Director and Chief Executive of NTI Kaduna, officially opened the training, emphasizing the institute’s commitment to annual teacher training, upgrades, and certifications. The director, represented by the acting Registrar and Secretary to Council, Hajiya Fatima Abbas-Jega, highlighted NTI’s expertise in the field of teacher development.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Ibrahim Bala, the acting Director of Examinations and Chairman of NTI – SDGs Implementation Committee, advised teachers to embrace digital preparedness. He emphasized the need for adaptation as the world undergoes significant changes, influencing traditional classroom settings.
The opening ceremony took place at the SMASE Red Chamber Hall, NTI Kaduna, with the presence of key figures such as the Institute’s Bursar, Malam Yunusa Danbala Labaran, the newly appointed Overseer of the Department of Fields Operations and Students Services, Mrs. Bilkisu Umar, and a representative from the Academic Services Department, Dr. Dabou Terema.
Teachers participating in the program were encouraged to share the knowledge gained during the training with their colleagues at their respective schools. The training initiative comes as a response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting the education sector worldwide to strategize and implement alternative teaching methods.
It is noteworthy that in 2021, NTI received recognition as a ‘Centre of Excellence for Digital Literacy for Nigerian Teachers,’ showcasing the institute’s capability to organize and deliver digital training for Nigerian teachers.
