The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has revealed that a substantial number of teachers, totaling 3,963, did not pass the nationwide Professional Qualifying Examination held in November 2023.
During an interactive session with journalists on Monday, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, the Registrar of the TRCN, shed light on the examination’s purpose, emphasizing its role in assessing the professional competence of educators across the country.
Out of the 15,753 teachers who participated in the examination at 38 centers nationwide, 10,636 successfully passed, representing approximately 72.9 percent. However, the remaining 3,963 candidates fell short of meeting the qualifying criteria.
The Registrar also pointed out that some candidates were absent during the examination, while others had their results canceled due to involvement in examination malpractices.
The November exam took place from November 23 to November 25, 2023, as reported by The PUNCH. Ajiboye underscored the TRCN’s dedication to elevating the teaching profession in Nigeria.
