The Nigerian Senate has taken a compassionate step in response to the tragic accidental bombing in Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State, announcing a substantial donation of N109 million. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin made the announcement during a visit to Kaduna, expressing the Senate’s solidarity with the victims and the state government.
The accidental air strike, carried out by the Nigerian Army, resulted in the loss of over 100 lives and numerous injuries. Senator Jibrin, representing Senate President Godswill Akpabio, conveyed the deep concern of the Senate over the incident. The 109 senators unanimously decided to donate their December salaries, totaling N109 million, to alleviate the suffering of the affected community.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Jibrin assured that the funds would be sent to the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, for direct delivery to the victims. The gesture serves as a tangible expression of the Senate’s commitment to standing by the government and people of Kaduna State during this challenging time.
During the visit, Senator Jibrin emphasized the Senate’s determination to collaborate with the state government in providing support to the affected community beyond the financial donation. The senators expressed their collective grief and sympathy for the lives lost and the hardships faced by the people of Tudun Biri.
Governor Uba Sani, in response, appreciated the Senate’s gesture and urged the senators to advocate for justice in investigating the incident. He emphasized the importance of holding those responsible for the bombings accountable. Additionally, the governor appealed to the senators to support the call for the creation of state police, citing its potential to enhance intelligence and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Accompanying the Senate Deputy President on the visit were notable figures, including Senate Majority Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Chief Ship Senator Ali Ndume, Senate Minority Leader Senator Abba Morro, and others.
