NILDS Celebrates Graduation of 500 Students in 10 Years

Five hundred students have successfully completed their studies at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies NILDS over the past decade, from 2013 to 2023.

Dr. Moshood Amuda, the Director of Exams and Records at the institute, made this announcement on Thursday in Abuja while representing Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, the Director-General of NILDS, at the induction ceremony for the NILDS-UNIBEN postgraduate program for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Dr. Amuda revealed, "The institute has enrolled approximately 800 students and successfully graduated 500 students." He further explained that the postgraduate program is conducted in collaboration with the University of Benin UNIBEN and holds full accreditation from the National Universities Commission.

The purpose of the induction ceremony was to familiarize the students with the learning environment and equip them with the necessary skills to utilize the available resources effectively.

"NILDS is recognized as one of the world's leading academic and research institutions, established by an Act of parliament to support the development of a dynamic and effective legislature in Nigeria, ECOWAS, and Africa as a whole," Dr. Amuda stated. "The NILDS-UNIBEN postgraduate program is an integral part of the institute's overarching framework for enhancing knowledge of legislative processes and democratic governance."

The institute offers various postgraduate programs, including Masters in Legislative Studies, Masters in Elections and Party Politics, Masters in Legislative Drafting, Masters in Parliamentary Administration, and Postgraduate Diploma in Elections and Party Management.

Dr. Amuda also noted that over 100 students have been admitted to different programs for the 2022/2023 session. He highlighted the encouraging increase in female enrollment in the NILDS postgraduate programs, with females accounting for 57 percent in the postgraduate diploma program and constituting 46 percent of new students in the Masters in Legislative Drafting program.

Additionally, NILDS recently launched Democracy Radio 104.9 FM and the Legislative Centre for Security Analysis. In addition to lectures and library resources, students now have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge on a wide range of legislative and national development issues through radio broadcasts.

Dr. Amuda encouraged the new students to regularly tune in to NILDS Democracy Radio 104.9 FM and urged them to follow NILDS' social media handles and subscribe to its YouTube channels to access materials that would enrich their understanding of the institute's programs.
