Inter Milan and France forward Marcus Thuram has identified Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as a significant source of motivation for himself and his national teammates as they gear up for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Greece.
Currently with Les Bleus, the French national team, Thuram expressed admiration for Henry’s impact both on and off the field. In a recent interview on the French national team Podcast, Thuram lauded Henry for being a reference point, not just for his playing style but also for his exemplary behavior.
“He is a reference point, for how he played and also his behaviour,” Thuram stated. “He is an example of what Clairefontaine is trying to create. For me, he is the perfect testimonial. I’ve known him well since I was a kid. I consider him a bit like my uncle.”
Reflecting on his early experiences, Thuram recalled the first time he visited the sports center and noticed a significant increase in the level of competition. He recounted encountering Henry, describing him as a not-so-tall North African boy who played with incredible skill and made impressive moves without looking at the ball.
Thuram’s appreciation for Henry goes beyond the football pitch, recognizing him as a figure embodying the ideals of Clairefontaine, the renowned French football academy. The Inter Milan forward’s sentiments reflect the influence that iconic players like Henry can have on the next generation of footballers, serving as role models both in skill and conduct.
Thierry Henry’s illustrious career includes scoring 51 goals in 123 matches for France, winning a Euros tournament, a FIFA World Cup, and a FIFA Confederations Cup. He also secured several titles with clubs like Monaco, Arsenal, and Barcelona, leaving an indelible mark on the football world.
