Kidnappers are demanding ₦75 million for the release of Anglican Bishop Rev. Canon Olowolagba, his wife, and their children, abducted along Iboropa Road in Akoko North-East, Ondo State.
The abduction occurred while the family was traveling from Ipesi to Isua Akoko.
Their absence was discovered the next morning when church members noticed they had neither arrived at Ikaram nor returned home.
Among the victims are the bishop’s daughter, a student at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, and a nine-year-old girl.
Negotiations with the kidnappers have fluctuated. The initial ₦75 million demand was reduced to ₦10 million, then raised to ₦15 million after partial funds were gathered.
However, the abductors have reverted to their original demand.
Amotekun Commander Chief Adetunji Adeleye confirmed that the state security outfit, in collaboration with local hunters, is conducting a rescue operation.
Rt. Rev. Babajide Bada, Bishop of Akoko Anglican Diocese, expressed hope for a swift rescue, saying, “Amotekun and hunters are combing the bushes to ensure the victims are rescued.”
Sheikh Basiru Aminu, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Akoko North-West, has called for prayers for the victims’ safe return.
Meanwhile, state police spokesperson Funmi Odunlami said the case had not been reported to any police station. Rescue efforts are ongoing.
