The Old Students Association and Parents Forum of Ebenezer Grammar School in Iberekodo, Abeokuta expressed strong condemnation for the reported rape case involving Mathematics teacher Lateef Olaniran. Olaniran was apprehended last Saturday following complaints lodged by the Ministry of Women Affairs.
During a press briefing held at the Ogun NUJ secretariat in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, the old students and parents underscored that the regrettable incident should not define the school, renowned for its commitment to sound education and character development.
National President Alhaji Tajudeen Olori, supported by Alhaji Rasheed Fadipe and Pa Aderemi Koleosho, PTA Chairmen of the Senior and Junior sections, condemned Olaniran’s actions. Olori described the suspect as an absentee teacher, previously reported to the state government through the Teaching Service Commission.
Expressing concern, Olori lamented that Olaniran’s behavior had cast the school in a negative light publicly. Importantly, he clarified that the alleged rape did not transpire within the school premises.
Olori stressed, “It is unfortunate that Lateef Olaniran, is a teacher in our alma mater, but all his acts in this case of rape are personal and have nothing to do with the school. He committed those acts far away from school.”
He assured parents of the students in Ebenezer Grammar School to remain calm, emphasizing the safety of their children in both the school and hostel. Olori affirmed the school’s commitment to high morals and educational standards, pledging to continue producing good leaders for society and Nigeria at large.
The association called for the immediate suspension of Lateef Olaniran pending the conclusion of the investigation. Additionally, they humbly requested that Olaniran not be reinstated at Ebenezer Grammar School even after the investigation and trial, citing an irreparable loss of confidence and cooperation from both staff and students
