The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced that 1,379,342 Nigerians completed online pre-registration in the first week of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), held from August 18 to 24, 2025.
According to INEC’s CVR State Pre-Registration Report, Lagos recorded the highest number with 222,205 entries (16.11%), while Osun led by percentage share with 393,269 (28.51%).
Ogun followed with 132,823 (9.63%), the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had 107,682 (7.81%), Oyo 66,951, Kaduna 61,592, and Kogi 58,546. Kwara, Kebbi and Yobe also recorded 33,726; 35,009; and 34,888 respectively.
In the South-South, Delta registered 24,421; Rivers 11,314; Akwa Ibom 12,373; Cross River 4,055; Bayelsa 4,638; and Edo 2,875, while Ondo posted 3,426. Borno topped the North-East with 21,045, followed by Bauchi 13,066; Gombe 4,103; Taraba 2,395; and Adamawa 2,155. Yobe stood out in the zone with 34,888.
For the North-West, Kaduna led with 61,592, while Kano had 10,166; Katsina 11,004; Jigawa 8,243; Kebbi 35,009; Sokoto 12,478; and Zamfara 2,947.
In the North-Central, Niger posted 24,818; Nasarawa 11,555; Plateau 6,586; and Benue 7,305, with Kogi also ranking among the top states.
The South-East recorded the lowest turnout: Ebonyi 261, Enugu 484, Imo 481 and Abia 772. Anambra was not listed separately.
Meanwhile, INEC announced that the physical phase of the CVR commenced nationwide today at 811 centres across the 774 LGAs and state offices. Both new applicants and those who pre-registered online are required to appear for biometric capture.
The exercise also accommodates transfer of voter registration, replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, and updating of personal information.
Registration will run Mondays to Fridays, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is open only to Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above who have never registered.
INEC assured that provisions have been made for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. Its online portal – www.cvr.inecnigeria.org – provides services including pre-registration, PVC status checks, location of centres, transfers, card replacement, and profile updates.
