President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently receiving Nigeria’s triumphant Super Falcons at the State House in Abuja, following their landmark victory on Saturday in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final held in Rabat, Morocco.
The victorious Nigerian team, led by Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and head coach Justin Madugu, arrived at the Presidential Villa at 4:35 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, to a warm and enthusiastic reception. Upon their arrival at the forecourt of the State House, the team was ushered in to be personally welcomed by President Tinubu, who is celebrating the champions for securing the nation’s record 10th WAFCON title.
This reception fulfills President Tinubu’s pledge made during a post-match video call on Sunday. In that call, he had congratulated the team on their stellar performance and assured them that he eagerly looked forward to receiving them and the coveted trophy in Abuja.
During the earlier call, President Tinubu expressed his immense pride: “I am very, very proud of you. The entire nation is proud of you. You have lifted our spirits. You are a pride to your generation, and we are all very happy.” He further added, “You will be celebrated, and I look forward to receiving the trophy in Abuja.”
The Super Falcons had staged a stunning comeback to defeat hosts Morocco with a thrilling 3-2 victory in Rabat, cementing their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
