Tinubu Risks 2015-style Defeat if He Ignores Economic Hardship, Ndume Warns

Senator Ali Ndume has warned that President Bola Tinubu could face a major electoral upset similar to what befell former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 if he fails to tackle the country’s economic crisis and rising public dissatisfaction.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, the former Senate Chief Whip drew parallels between Jonathan’s fall from power and the current state of affairs under Tinubu, despite widespread endorsements from party stakeholders.
“Jonathan had 22 governors behind him and still lost. Tinubu could suffer the same fate if he doesn’t learn from that experience,” Ndume cautioned.
The Borno South senator argued that the endorsements currently pouring in for Tinubu may create a false sense of security, just as they did for Jonathan ahead of his defeat by then-opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
Ndume said while the president has maintained that it is not yet time for politics, many politicians are already campaigning under the guise of endorsements.
“I pity Mr. President. Though he said this is not the time for campaigns, the campaigning has already begun. He must not be complacent,” he said.
Ndume also expressed concern about speculations that some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), might be handed automatic return tickets. According to him, such moves risk sidelining the party’s grassroots supporters who are critical to any successful election.
“When the rumour about automatic tickets for National Assembly members emerged, the party denied it. But if these supporters feel ignored, who will be the foot soldiers during elections? You can’t depend on governors alone,” he warned.
He urged President Tinubu to move quickly and implement policies that directly address the suffering of Nigerians.
“There’s still time. If the president focuses on making Nigerians truly happy in the next two years, he may have no serious challenger in the next election,” Ndume concluded.

Zuba: Commuters, Residents Protest Lack of U Turn, Halt Construction Work

By Samson Adeyanju

Frustrated commuters and residents on Today staged a protest over the absence of a nearby U turn on the newly constructed road in Zuba, Abuja, describing the situation as a source of severe hardship for drivers and pedestrians.

The protesters, comprising young and old, carried placards and blocked sections of the road, demanding immediate government intervention to address what they described as unnecessary suffering caused by the road design.

According to the protesters, motorists are forced to drive long distances before finding a point to turn to the opposite lane, while pedestrians struggle to cross the busy road because the designated pedestrian crossing is located far from the area near the popular fruit market.

They said the situation has created heavy congestion involving vehicles, commercial motorcycles, drivers, traders, motor parks and nearby filling stations.

While the demonstrators acknowledged the efforts of the government in constructing the new road, they insisted that the absence of a nearby U turn has placed commuters under serious pressure.

Some protesters temporarily halted construction activities, confronting workers on site and demanding that authorities urgently create a turning point to ease movement.

One of the protesters said the demonstration was meant to draw the attention of the government to the daily challenges faced by residents.

However, not all residents supported the protest. Some argued that introducing a U turn in the area could increase the risk of accidents due to the heavy traffic around the market.

As of the time of filing this report, tensions remained high as road workers attempted to resume barricading work on the road, while protesters continued to voice their grievances.

Observers warned that the situation could escalate if authorities fail to address the concerns or deploy security personnel to maintain order.
