Wasiu Alalade wrote his name into Kwara United’s history books on Wednesday with the goal that propelled the Harmony Boys into their first-ever President Federation Cup final in 49 years.
The 25-year-old forward struck in the 50th minute to seal a 1- 0 victory over Rangers International at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, sparking jubilation among fans and teammates.
“First, I will say I’m excited and very happy that we won and will now play in the final for the first time,” said Alalade, who has scored 11 goals and provided two assists across all competitions this season.
A former invitee to Nigeria’s U23 Olympic Eagles, Alalade overcame a career-threatening knee concern that once took him to Argentina for specialist care. Now fully fit, he is basking in glory and gratitude.
“I’m also happy because I played a role in this journey to the final by being the one that God used to give us this victory, by making me the one who scored the goal. I’m excited and thankful to Him,” he said.
The striker, formerly of ABS Ilorin, dedicated the goal to “God and the fans and supporters of Kwara United.”
Kwara United now turn their focus to the final showdown against Abakaliki FC, the National League underdogs who have stunned their way to the last two despite sitting at the bottom of the NNL Conference B table.
“As a team, we’re happy that this joyous moment is happening in our time at the club.
“History will remember us in the future as the players whose efforts saw the team reach this feat at this point in time,” Alalade added.
The Harmony Boys now stand on the verge of a dream title, with one more hurdle left.
